The Azusa Police Department exceeds California POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) requirements to ensure every officer is prepared to serve with skill and confidence. New recruits receive over 980 hours of academy training—well beyond the state minimum—and all officers complete an average of 100 hours of advanced training every two years, four times the state mandate.

Our team partners with the San Bernardino and Orange County Sheriff’s Academies to ensure trainees are equipped with both technical knowledge and real-world readiness.

We believe that training should reflect the realities officers face every day. From de-escalation and crisis response to weapons proficiency and defensive tactics, our programs are designed to prepare officers for high-stress situations with clarity and control.

Officers receive continuing education in critical areas like active shooter response, use-of-force protocols, off-duty readiness, and weapon malfunction drills—ensuring that when it matters most, they’re ready.

The department’s force training program is nationally recognized for its use of Krav Maga and its ongoing commitment to safe, effective arrest control techniques. We also emphasize pursuit safety and emergency vehicle operation through biannual training at the San Bernardino Emergency Vehicle Operations Center.
