Corner detail

The City of Azusa has a long-standing tradition of allowing “Safe and Sane” fireworks at designated locations during July 4th celebrations. Fireworks marked with the official “Safe and Sane” label are sold locally and permitted within certain areas of the city, as shown in the downloadable map below. All other fireworks—such as bottle rockets and firecrackers—are strictly prohibited.

To protect the safety of all residents, visitors, and businesses, the Azusa Police Department increases patrol presence during the days surrounding Independence Day. Officers are authorized to issue citations for illegal fireworks or discharge violations—especially in restricted areas north of Sierra Madre Avenue.

Legal fireworks may only be discharged on July 4th between noon and midnight.

Firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, and any fireworks not labeled “Safe and Sane” are illegal in Azusa and subject to fines.

You may use legal fireworks in residential neighborhoods, except in the following areas:

  • Schools
  • City parks
  • Parking lots
  • Alleys
  • Any area north of Sierra Madre Avenue

The map below highlights where fireworks are permitted (blue zones) and where they are strictly prohibited (red zones). Click the map to view full-size or download for reference before July 4th celebrations.

  • Fines for illegal fireworks can reach $5,000 per violation
  • Discharging any fireworks north of Sierra Madre Avenue is a fineable offense
  • Officers may be in uniform, plain clothes, marked, or unmarked vehicles
