The Azusa Police Department impounds and stores vehicles when necessary. This often includes vehicles being driven illegally, recovered stolen vehicles, or those involved in traffic collisions. If your vehicle was towed by a business, private person, or property owner, please contact the towing company responsible for the removal. The Azusa Police Department can only assist if the tow was initiated by our agency.

I want to contest my vehicle being impounded. How do I do that?

If your vehicle was towed by the Azusa Police Department, you may contest the impound within 10 days of the tow date. The department will conduct a hearing within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) and notify you of the results.

How do I get my vehicle out of impound?

Visit the Azusa Police Department with a valid driver’s license. Once we confirm you are the registered owner and that your registration is current:

  • You must pay a $175 release fee

  • If the vehicle was towed due to a DUI, the release fee is $400

  • Credit card payments include a 2% service fee

You will be provided with a release form to take to the towing company holding your vehicle. Please note: towing and storage fees are paid directly to the towing company.
